Lusitano horses raised out in the fields, in the heart of the Ribatejo.
At Herdade das Onzenas, Lusitano horses are bred and trained. The broodmares live in the water meadows and the colts stay out in the field until they are three, before they begin their training. Guests can watch the horses go about their day, sit in on training and, by prior booking, ride out across the 150 hectares of Ribatejo cork oak.
The Lusitano is one of the oldest breeds in the world, known for its intelligence, its gentle temperament and its natural elegance. At Herdade das Onzenas the horses are raised with respect for the breed and for the Portuguese riding tradition.
The estate's indoor arena makes it possible to train and give riding displays at any time of year. Professional in size and lit by daylight, it is the heart of everything equestrian at Onzenas.
Ride the trails across the estate's 150 hectares, between cork oaks and Ribatejo landscape. A guided ride, suited to every level — from people who have never been on a horse to experienced riders.
The Onzenas stud farm has individual boxes, generous paddocks, an outdoor arena and an indoor arena. All of it was designed to keep the horses comfortable and healthy the year round.
